Ask where the world's tiles come from and buyers still say China, Italy, Spain. The 2023–2024 data tells a more useful story: Vietnam has more tile capacity than almost anyone — and is running well below it, which is exactly the position a buyer wants their supplier to be in.

Capacity vs. actual output — the number that matters

  • Installed capacity: 800+ million m²/year (porcelain, granite and cotto), placing Vietnam among the top-4 tile producers by capacity.
  • Actual 2023 output: ~397 million m² — roughly the world's 7th largest by volume.

The gap between capacity and output is the headline. It means Vietnamese porcelain-tile plants have idle line time and a strong appetite for committed export orders — leverage you can use on price, lead time and overage terms.

Top manufacturers

Viglacera is the anchor: Vietnam's biggest construction-materials maker, with roughly 43 million m²/year of tile capacity, exports to ~70 countries, and a place in the world's top-20 tile manufacturers. In 2024 it led the sector on revenue and signed a SACMI digital-press partnership to lift design range and yield. Around Viglacera sit other large names (Prime, Catalan, Đồng Tâm and more) across the northern and southern clusters.

Export data (recent)

  • Vietnamese ceramic exports: ~US$674 million in 2024, up ~9% YoY.
  • Vietnam is ASEAN's top ceramic-tile producer.
  • Export lines are already certified for EU, US and Australian projects.

What it means for project buyers

Two advantages stack up: spare capacity (leverage) and trade position. Vietnamese-origin tile avoids the US anti-dumping duties and Section 301 tariffs that weigh on Chinese ceramic shipments — often the deciding factor on landed cost into the US.

Specify properly, though: demand ISO 13006 group BIa (water absorption ≤ 0.5%) for true porcelain and get the test report; order 5–8% overage in one batch, because tone and caliber drift between production runs.
